It generates detailed prompts to guide your storytelling. You can also use it to create plot outlines, scene suggestions, and titles, which you can then expand into full stories. Once your generated prompt is fed to ChatGPT, the prompt will instruct ChatGPT to create a rough draft full story.

Usually just a few seconds, depending on the number of categories and options you select.

Yes! You can type in your own ideas for any category and add them to the list of selectable options.

 

 

 

7. How many options can I add before the app slows down?

Thanks to lazy loading, FreeStoryWriter can handle thousands of options without slowing down. Only a portion of options loads at a time to keep everything smooth.

 

 

 

8. Can I create new categories?

Currently, you can customize options within existing categories. Adding entirely new categories is a feature we’re considering for future updates. However, there is the option to add your own information into the prompt before sending it over to ChatGPT.

 

 

 

9. What happens if I ignore a category?

If you choose “Ignore,” that category won’t be included in your generated story prompt. This helps focus only on the elements you care about.

 

 

 

10. What does “Let Chat Pick” do exactly?

This option lets ChatGPT randomly select an option for that category, giving you a fresh and unexpected story idea.

 

 

 

11. Can FreeStoryWriter handle thousands of options without crashing?

Yes! The app uses lazy loading to ensure smooth performance, even with very large lists of options.

 

 

 

12. Why don’t all my options appear immediately?

To maintain speed and performance, options load in chunks as you scroll, rather than all at once. This ensures the app runs smoothly.

 

 

 

13. Can it work on my phone or tablet?

14. Do I need an internet connection for the web version?

Yes, the web version requires an internet connection. For offline use, see the ad-free desktop version.

The web version runs in your browser, so it uses minimal resources. The desktop version is lightweight and requires very little storage.

Simply click the copy button to copy prompts or stories to your clipboard—ready to paste into ChatGPT or any writing tool.

 

 

 

19. Can it suggest plot outlines, scene ideas, and titles automatically?

You control the depth. By selecting more categories and options, you can generate rich, detailed, and immersive story prompts.

 

 

 

21. How do I get the ad-free desktop version?

The desktop version ProStoryWriter is available for a one-time fee of $5.00 on our More Tools page. This secures your ability to use our services even in the event that we are temporarily offline. See FAQ #25 for more info.

Yes! Once downloaded, the desktop version works completely offline. See FAQ #25 for more info.

 

 

 

23. Is it safe to download and install?

Absolutely. The desktop version, ProStoryWriter is secure, lightweight, and free from ads or tracking.

 

 

 

24. Do I need to pay monthly for the desktop version or is it a one-time fee?

It’s a one-time fee of $5.00—no subscriptions required.

 

 

 

25. Will the desktop version include all the same features as the web version?

Yes! You’ll have full functionality offline, including all categories, custom options, and prompt generation features - However, it is important to note that feeding the prompt to ChatGPT DOES require an internet connection. You CAN use the program to save  prompts and notes for a story project and feed them into ChatGPT again once you're back online.

33. Is my data safe if I add custom options?

Yes. Custom options are stored locally in your browser and are not transmitted to any server.

 

 

 

34. Can I delete my custom options or selections at any time?

Absolutely. You can remove any custom option or reset all selections with a single click.

 

 

 

35. How can I use the content that I create on FreeStoryWriter.com and the desktop version?

 

You can use your generated content however you see fit. We do not collect, store, share, or own any materials that you create with FreeStoryWriter.com or our paid desktop version ProStoryWriter in any way, You are still subject to any third-party softwares that you use outside of either of the before-mentioned services.
